Stay Healthy, Stay Hydrated!

I’m sure you have been told before that you should be drinking 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day, but why? Our bodies depend on water for survival. In fact, half of our body weight is made up of water! All of our organs, cells and tissue need water to function properly or we wouldn’t be able to maintain our body temperature, remove waste and lubricate our joints.

We lose water daily by going to the restroom, when we exercise and even when we breathe! Staying hydrated is very important to keep our bodies healthy and active. If we don’t replenish the water that our bodies lose, we could become dehydrated and experience fatigue, headaches, dizziness or lose focus.

Here are some tips for staying hydrated throughout the day!

  • Start and finish your day with a glass of water
  • Keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day
  • If you exercise, make sure you drink water before, during and after your workout.
  • Plain water can get boring, add a slice of lemon or lime
  • Make water a part of your routine. Have a glass when you wake up, with each meal, or every hour on the hour and it will soon become a habit

Different bodies call for different intakes of water – listen to your body and drink up.

Cheers!

2012… Stick to Your Resolution!

A New Year’s resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to one or more lasting personal projects, goals, or the reforming of a habit. What is your resolution for 2012?

Here are some tips to help you stick to your resolution:

1. Don’t Do it Alone

It’s easy to stay at home and put on your sweats when you don’t have to meet anyone. Make a plan with a friend and stay devoted to a schedule that works for both of you. That way, if you feel like backing out, you know you have someone waiting for you!

2. Track Your Progress

Purchase a note book and keep track of measurable results. Take a picture of yourself at the start of your resolution so you can see the results as you work toward your goals.

3. Talk About It

Don’t keep your resolutions a secret! Tell your friends and family what you are doing. They can hold you accountable for your commitment and make sure you are keeping up with your goal.

4. Don’t Be Hard on Yourself

Do the best you can each day and if you slip up one day, there is always tomorrow.

5. Reward Yourself

Celebrate your success and treat yourself by doing something that you enjoy that doesn’t contradict your resolution, that way you will stay on track but still feel rewarded for all of your hard work.

Here’s to a fantastic 2012… HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Winter Skin Blues

It’s that time of year… our lips are chapped, cheeks are red, and our skin isn’t getting enough hydration. It’s winter!

In the colder months, our skin starts to dry out due to the lack of moisture in the air and the low relative humidity. Being indoors doesn’t help either with heaters depriving our skin of water. This makes for an uncomfortable, tight, dry, itchy feeling that we have to deal with everyday.

Here are some simple benefits of pure skin by glo and how it can help you prevent the winter skin blues…

Hydrating Skin Cleanser – Thoroughly cleanses skin with a light foaming action. Ingredients protect skin cells against pollutants and include anti-aging properties that exfoliate and moisturize the skin.

Ultra 15% Vitamin C – Apply in the morning after cleansing. Ingredients improve skin elasticity, decreases wrinkles by stimulating collagen synthesis, promote wound healing and suppresses cutaneous pigmentation.

B5 Advanced Hydration – Use daily after Vitamin C and before moisturizer (may be used alone to hydrate). Ingredients prevent transepidermal water loss and help to steady the moisture content in the skin while improving the skin’s ability to take in oxygen and tolerate the sun to maintain a smooth surface.

Oil Free Moisturizer – Apply to skin after cleansing and toning. Ingredients protect skin cells from stress attacks and improve skin to become more radiant while protecting against free radical damage caused by environmental aggressors. It’s important to apply topically to replenish what is lost from polluted air.

The Cherry Balm is the newest addition to pure skin by glo. Soothe and heal your lips with botanicals of hemp seed oil, meadowfoam and mango seed butter. The Cherry Balm protects your lips with full-spectrum SPF 15.

pure skin by glo is available on purebarre.com/shop. Take 10% off your total purchase through December 25th!

Substance rather than Stuffing

With Thanksgiving only a week away, we begin to start thinking about flights, in-laws, grocery shopping and how many times we’ll have to do Pure Barre to make up for the long weekend.   I thought writing about the things that I am thankful for would be a great way to put my mind on the substance rather than on the turkey stuffing.

I am of course thankful to have a workout that I look forward to every day and that truly works.

I’m thankful to have a company full of smart, hard-working people who are passionate about Pure Barre the product and the brand.

I’m thankful for all of the hardships and struggles I’ve been through because of what they have taught me and how strong they have made me. (I’m also thankful when they are over).

I’m thankful for Uggs, spandex, juicy tube lip gloss, coffee and the invention of the microwave.

I’m thankful for my dogs who sit anxiously outside the bedroom door every morning waiting for me to get up and then act like they haven’t seen me in years.

I’m thankful for wifi.

Very thankful for my education.

Last but not least, I’m thankful to have such a love to share life with.

I think everybody should try this before Thanksgiving- it only takes a few minutes and it certainly  brings a smile to your face and happiness to your heart.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tanks for Toto

I blogged about Pure Barre’s partnership with the Dumb Friends League (DFL) a few weeks ago and am very excited to launch our Paws for a Cause tanks this week.  100% of the profits will go to DFL and we are working to raise as much as possible to sponsor the “Furry Scurry” in May.  The tanks will be available on purebarre.com as well as in our locations nationwide.  My life is so much richer with dogs in it….hoping to bring many other people the same joy.

Pure Give

This Saturday Pure Barre locations all over the country will be holding class to raise money for many great causes.  When someone buys a franchise we require them to partner with a local charity of their choice.  We hold Pure Give day twice a year uniting the charitable spirit of PB nationwide while supporting numerous local causes.

I recently read a Forbes article that discussed the 19 people that have already donated at least $1 billion each to charities or foundations.   If you want to be inspired it’s worth reading.  We may not make it to $1 billion but we can certainly do our part this Saturday and make an impact on the world.
