I’m sure you have been told before that you should be drinking 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day, but why? Our bodies depend on water for survival. In fact, half of our body weight is made up of water! All of our organs, cells and tissue need water to function properly or we wouldn’t be able to maintain our body temperature, remove waste and lubricate our joints.
We lose water daily by going to the restroom, when we exercise and even when we breathe! Staying hydrated is very important to keep our bodies healthy and active. If we don’t replenish the water that our bodies lose, we could become dehydrated and experience fatigue, headaches, dizziness or lose focus.
Here are some tips for staying hydrated throughout the day!
- Start and finish your day with a glass of water
- Keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day
- If you exercise, make sure you drink water before, during and after your workout.
- Plain water can get boring, add a slice of lemon or lime
- Make water a part of your routine. Have a glass when you wake up, with each meal, or every hour on the hour and it will soon become a habit
Different bodies call for different intakes of water – listen to your body and drink up.
Cheers!
